As of right now: Vols have a new coach.

The nation’s attention has been drawn to Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban’s retirement.

While Alabama supporters await the announcement of their new leader, many others nationwide are curious as to whether their coach will be considering Tuscaloosa.

There is still another group of people who are interested:

those who have placed bets on the selection of the new head coach. Indeed, it is a real item that can be bet on at this moment.

Strangely enough, one of the options is a former head coach of the Tennessee Vols, Derek Dooley, a man who Tennessee supporters would undoubtedly be happy to see succeed him. Indeed, in all seriousness.

Online bookmaker BetOnline has Dooley named as one of the eighteen candidates up for grabs to replace Nick Saban at Alabama.

He shares the same odds(+4000) as head coaches of the Houston Texans and Notre Dame, Marcus Freeman, as of Thursday morning.

that are rather unexpected odds for the former UT coach, considering that are two well-known coaches at the moment.

Alabama and Dooley are connected, at the very least. Dooley has worked as an offensive analyst for Nick Saban in Tuscaloosa for the past two seasons.

Additionally, he hasn’t held a head coaching position since losing his cool in Knoxville between 2010 and 2012, so maybe the sportsbook believes that enough time has gone for the memory of his failure to diminish.

as yet, it’s still a strange selection given that under Saban he served just as an analyst rather than as a coordinator or as a position coach.
