32-year-old former collegiate football player killed in auto accident
The former football player for the Nebraska Cornhuskers passed away.
The former offensive lineman for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Cole Pensick, passed away at the age of 32, and the college football community is in grief.
Pensick was engaged in an automobile accident on Saturday morning, the Polk Co. (Neb.) Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
At roughly 6:45 a.m., Pensick was declared deceased at the scene of the collision.
During the Cornhuskers’ outstanding 2013 football season—which saw them go 9-4 and 5-3 in the Big Ten and rank in the top 20 nationally in total rushing offense—Pensick was a part of the offensive line.
The Lincoln Northeast alumnus played both guard and center for Nebraska, demonstrating his versatility.
In the 2013 season, he participated in all 13 games and started in 12, starting 11 at center and 1 at guard before missing the last two games due to a knee injury.
The coaches in the league selected him to the Second Team All-Big Ten as a consequence of his outstanding play during his senior year.
Pensick participated in Nebraska’s 2014 Gator Bowl victory over Georgia, one of 19 senior players on the team.
Cole was the son of Dan Pensick, a 1977–1979 Nebraska letterman for three years.
As of late, Pensick is the second former Nebraska football player to pass away in a vehicle accident.
According to accounts, former Huskers offensive lineman Mark Pelini passed away in an Indiana collision in 2014 after his truck struck a deer and collided with another vehicle.
